Donuts are a classic breakfast item that people generally save for a splurge day. If you want to get more out of your treat, try them in one of these new ways. Eating an old classic with a new twist makes having a donut more fun.
This idea is similar to French Toast casserole. Tear your donuts into pieces and layer them with whipped eggs, cream, sugar and cinnamon and bake until set. Serve topped with syrup.
Make a Sandwich
Both sweet and savory fillings work for a donut sandwich. Try peanut butter and jelly or grilled with cheese inside.
Have a Burger
Skip the bun and sandwich your cheese and meat between two donuts instead. The sweet and savory combination is perfect.
Place your donut directly on a greased waffle iron and cook it for several minutes. Serve it topped with peanut butter and applesauce.
Warm up leftover donuts and top them with ice cream and all your favorite toppings for the perfect ending to any meal.
You can absolutely grill donuts. Split them and grill on each side for a couple of minutes then enjoy topped with fruit.
You don’t have to use bread to make this dessert. Donuts add a new and interesting flavor that you won’t find anywhere else.
Instead of a traditional layer cake, try using donuts instead. Arrange several to form a square or rectangle, then frost them completely and repeat with several more layers the same way.
If you pulse donuts in the food processor and mix with milk, sugar and eggs, you have the perfect batter for dessert bars or cake pops.
Top a Milk Straw
Loop a small donut around a straw and adorn a glass of milk with it. This is the perfect presentation for serving a simple dessert with some drama.
